The social car scheme exists to enable the elderly or people with disabilities to get to doctors appointments, opticians, chiropody etc.
It is for those who are unable to access public transport due to disability and/or isolation.
The scheme is partly financed by the local authority.
The cost is based on the mileage from the volunteers home to the passengers home and to the destination and return @ 40p per mile. The passenger pays 55% of the 40p and the local authority pay 45% of the 40p
IN OTHER WORDS the passenger pays 22p per mile.
Unfortunatley, at the moment, we cannot take rigid wheelchairs as none of our volunteer drivers own a car with wheelchair access. However we can take people who use a wheelchair and can transfer from the wheelchair to the car seat.
Janine and Karen will be happy to help you solve your transport problem.
